The new del Lago Resort & Casino in Seneca County hit the jackpot in a readers survey published by a national magazine dedicated to slot machines and video poker.
Del Lago's slots won 15 awards -- including four first-place rankings -- in the annual survey for Strictly Slots, a division of Casino Player magazine.
The results are in the magazine's November issue -- its biggest of the year. Poker player wins nearly $500,000 in single hand at Upstate NY casino Del Lago won first place rankings in these categories: "We are very grateful for the fifteen awards we received from Strictly Slots, especially because the honors were submitted by readers," del Lago executive Vice president and general manager Jeff Babinski said in a statement.
The slots rankings for del Lago were tops among New York casinos.
The $440 million del Lago Resort & Casino opened in February at Exit 41 of the New York State Thruway, in the town of Tyre near Waterloo. It has 1,956 slot machines and 99 gaming tables, including 14 poker tables.
It opened a 205-room hotel this summer, and also offers several dining options, including Portico by Fabio.
It also hosts concerts in The Vine entertainment center.
Del Lago is one of three new non Indian nation-owned "Vegas-style" casinos to open in Upstate New York in the past year.
Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady also opened in February and Tioga Downs, which converted from a harness track with slots to a full-service casino, opened in December 2016.
A fourth new casion, Resorts World Catskills, is scheduled to open near Monticello in 2018.
The new casinos have so far failed to generate the gaming revenues they projected when bidding for the state licenses a few years ago.
Some in the industry have said the Upstate casino market is "saturated." Together, the three new casinos are about $220 million short of first-year projections.
